Cleaning Standards: Hotel-Level Hygiene in a Home

Cleanliness is Our North Star

At Carolina Furnished Rentals (CFR), we believe that “clean” is not subjective. It is a measurable standard.

We know that many of our guests are immunocompromised patients treating at Duke/UNC, or families fleeing homes contaminated by mold or smoke. You cannot afford to walk into a dusty, questionable rental.

Our co-founder, Alex, brings a background in gourmet food service—an industry where sanitation is life-or-death. We apply those same rigorous Health Department-style standards to every turnover. We don’t just “tidy up”; we sanitize.

The Turnover Protocol

How do you clean between guests?

We utilize a professional, multi-point turnover process that exceeds standard residential cleaning:

  • Sanitization: We use hospital-grade disinfectants on all “High-Touch” surfaces (doorknobs, remotes, light switches, cabinet pulls).
  • Kitchen Deep Clean: All appliances (fridge, oven, microwave) are emptied and scrubbed. No “leftover condiments” or crumbs are left behind.
  • Bathroom Sterilization: Toilets, showers, and sinks are scrubbed and sealed to ensure they are free of mold, mildew, and hair.

Do you wash the comforters?

Yes. This is a major differentiator between CFR and typical Airbnb hosts.

  • The Industry Problem: Many hosts only wash the sheets, leaving the heavy duvet cover unwashed for weeks.
  • The CFR Solution: We use Triple-Sheeting or washable duvet covers. Every layer that touches your skin—sheets, pillowcases, and the duvet cover—is stripped and laundered between every single stay.

Who inspects the property?

We do not rely solely on cleaners to check their own work. We employ a separate QA (Quality Assurance) Team.

  • Before you check in, a supervisor walks the property to verify the cleaning, check lightbulbs, test the Wi-Fi, and ensure the Welcome Kit is stocked.
  • This Two-Set-of-Eyes approach ensures you never arrive to find a missed spot or a broken appliance.

What supplies are provided?

We provide a “Starter Kit” to get you through your first few days comfortably:

  • Paper Goods: Toilet paper, paper towels.
  • Soaps: Hand soap, dish soap, dishwasher pods, laundry detergent pods.
  • Toiletries: Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the bathrooms.

Note: For Extended Stays (30+ days), these are starter supplies. Guests are responsible for replenishing their own consumables after the initial kit runs out.

Maintenance & Inspection

Air Quality & Allergens

Do you use scented products?

We aim for neutrality.

We avoid heavy artificial air fresheners or plug-ins that can trigger migraines or asthma (common concerns for our medical guests).

Our goal is for the home to smell like nothing—just clean air.

How do you handle allergens (Pet Dander)?

Since many of our homes are "Pet Friendly," we take allergen removal seriously.

HEPA Filters: We regularly replace HVAC filters with high-rated filters to trap dust and dander.

Vacuuming: Our cleaning teams use heavy-duty vacuums designed for pet hair removal.

Hard Surfaces: Many of our homes feature LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank) flooring instead of carpet, which prevents dander from becoming trapped in the floor fibers.
